Paul Orengoh
Strategic leader. Strategic stakeholder relationship builder. Resource mobilizer. Concept to execution driver with over 15 years experience in water resources and ecosystems management in Africa and the Middle East. Director of Programs, African Minister’s Council on Water.
Paul has more than 15 years experience in developing, managing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating complex projects on water resources and ecosystems management, watershed planning and management, conservation education, climate change and adaptation, sustainable livelihoods, food security, and agricultural development across countries in Africa and the Middle East.
He is an avid resource mobilizer with a peak performance of about $250m worth of projects in 3 years. He is a strategic stakeholder relationship builder, establishing water Resources Users Associations, developing sub-catchment management plans, leading socio-economic and physiographic studies, cultivating sustainable public-private partnerships, and implementing USAID, World Bank, DFID, SIDA, EU, KFW, and African Development Bank-funded projects and grants.
Currently serving as Director of Programs at the African Minister’s Council on Water, (AMCOW), Paul is directly responsible for growing their project portfolio and enhancing project effectiveness and outreach impact. He provides direction to a team of technical staff to achieve significant growth opportunities by organizing effective/targeted market research; project development, management, and operational processes and activities; and to motivate professionals and other required resources (including strategic alliances) to help realize the AMCOW’s policy leadership mandate and reach its knowledge development objectives.
Previous roles include Senior Programs Coordinator for Africa & the Middle East at RTI International, Senior Coordinator for Africa, Water Resources Management Division and Public Information and Education Specialist, USAID Kenya ProMAra project, among numerous other leadership and operational positions at international, humanitarian nonprofit organizations, development agencies, and USAID funded projects over two decades.
Paul is currently an Associate Professor of Hydroclimatology at the Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation, University of Nairobi, as well as a Part-Time Lecturer at the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology.
