Father Charles Chilufya
Jesuit Priest. Director of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar Justice and Ecology office (JEO). Coordinator of the Africa Task Force of the Vatican Covid-19 Commission.
Father Charles Chilufya brings years of extensive experience operating at an executive level with a blend of strategic partner engagement and international advocacy. He has a deep background in strategy, international development, networking and economic analysis, with a focus on tax justice, business and knowledge economics.
He is experienced at cultivating strong partner relationships to galvanize engagement around current issues of international development affecting Africa.
He has been working for the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM) as director of the JCAM Justice and Ecology Office (JEO) since 2018. The JCAM Justice and Ecology Office works to foster and coordinate the Jesuits’ work in economic, social, migration, gender and climate justice in Africa. JEO is a vital Jesuit interface between global policies in the economic, social and environmental spheres and local issues confronting populations in Africa and Madagascar. JEO also works to foster collaboration among apostolic sectors regarding justice and ecology.
Prior to his current appointment, Father Chilufya served at the Copperbelt University, a public university in Zambia, where he worked in the School of Business and as the University Chaplain. In the School of Business, he taught research methods in business and economics as well as history of economic thought.
He has three BAs in Urban and Regional Planning, Philosophy and Theology and a Master of Research (MRes) in Business Economics and Management from ESADE Business School in Barcelona.
