Formed part of early “Business in Society” practice at McKinsey & Company, establishing sustainability as a serious business topic with clients. Sören is intrigued by the question of how the common good and individual interests can be aligned. He believes that natural systems provide ample inspiration for this question, demonstrating how to meet needs and create beauty in a fully regenerative way. His passion is to transfer this to socio-economic systems and organizations, making them regenerative and successful.

Sören was part of the founding team of Systemiq. As COO, he managed the operational setup during the company’s start and growth phase to more than 250 employees and € 30 million turnover, with offices in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. He was deeply involved in shaping Systemiq’s strategy, core processes, corporate culture, and employee value proposition. He also built the Systemiq Change Academy, the company’s learning platform for system change leadership, covering topics of mindset, skills, and knowledge.

At Siemens, Sören was part of the founding team at the headquarters’ Corporate Sustainability function, contributing to its formation and leading the company’s work on external engagement. He managed the Sustainability Advisory Board of high-ranking international sustainability experts and represented the company at national and international organizations and events. For Siemens Energy, Sören defined the regulatory strategy regarding Germany’s energy transition and power market design. He also played a leading role in a major strategic transformation program and led strategic projects on core issues, e.g. power storage, distributed energy, and data-driven business models.

As a consultant, Sören engaged on sustainability topics at a time when they were very far from mainstream, forming part of the “Business in Society” practice at McKinsey & Company. In that function, he advised companies in Europe and the Middle East on their sustainability and carbon strategy, the corresponding organizational setup, and major projects to create sustainable infrastructures, e.g. renewable energy or urban developments.

Sören is lecturer on systems thinking at the Center for Digital Technology and Management of Technical University Munich. He holds a Ph.D. in Economic Ethics from Martin-Luther University Halle Wittenberg (summa cum laude), a Master in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (with honours) and a Diploma in Intercultural and Business Studies from the University of Passau.
