Regenerative Palm Oil for Forests and Foresters

CAMTA is one of the Amazon’s oldest and most successful agroforestry cooperatives whose members SAF innovations regenerate natural and social systems. Because of higher productivity and value additions CAMTA farmers have also greatly increased their regenerative prosperity.

Together with Natura, Brazilian and international research institutions, CAMTA also developed SAF Dende, a highly innovative multicropping cultivation method that includes palm oil, cocoa and acai. It demonstrates that even commodities whose conventional, monocropping cultivation has led to vast deforestation, can be cultivated regeneratively and can have 30 – 40% higher productivity than chemical monocropping.

Together with CAMTA and NATURA, NOW and GA explore how blended finance that includes international impact investing can scale CAMTA’s work. NOW and GA are already exploring with partners in Africa and Asia how SAF Dende could be localized into other contexts to replace destructive palm oil monocropping.
