NOW and COP30 Action Agenda, Belém
Brazil’s government and the COP Presidency invited NOW Partners Foundation to join the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, IFAD, Agroecology Coalition and CGIAR in co-leading TERRA, the COP30 ACTION AGENDA for the international innovation and mainstreaming of Agroecology and Agroforestry.
The process that started already before Belém, will advance solutions over the long term, reporting back to the global community at consecutive COPs, the 2028 UN Global Stock Take and the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Besides co-leading this Action Agenda’s secretariat, NOW will co-lead the development of the Granary of Solutions that highlights and advances the further development and implementation of the world’s most innovative and scalable Agroecology and Agroforestry approaches. They share in common that they strengthen farmer incomes and rural economies, food and water security, resilience, health, biodiversity and the climate because they regenerate natural and social systems.
Global Academy (GA), that NOW co-founded with leading Agroecology and Agroforestry innovators and implementers from around the world, will support the co-innovation between leading approaches that rarely have the opportunity to learn from each other. GA will also support the development and expansion of innovative capacity building and scaling approaches that complement overstretched extension systems and add business and finance training for farmers.
Why TERRA?
With current agrifood systems responsible for 1/3 of global greenhouse gas emissions and 80% of biodiversity loss, transformative change is urgent. TERRA positions agroecology and agroforestry as global solutions for climate action, food security, and social justice—with family farmers, Indigenous Peoples, and traditional communities at the center.
